What makes a good pair of headphones?

What do you look for in a good pair of headphones? Open / closed ear, cable length, cable volume controls, frequency, etc.?

Light but soundproof would be nice, the gamecom headset I have at the moment is good but to make it better I'd enjoy to be lighter maybe.

Durability. I've gone through too many headphones that seem to just break from wear and tear. No I'm not destroying them! They just end up breaking eventually.
